Creative Books

One of the ways I keep inspired is by reading books. I especially like books that teach me or remind me of things that keep me positive and uplifted.

One Small Step Can Change Your Life by Robert Mauer

This wonderful book is about Kaizen, a Japanese technique of achieving great and lasting success through small, steady steps. It has some wonderful examples and stories about how it works. It is a small book with a big message.

The Art of Possibility by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander

I loved this book! It inspires you to look at living your life with possibility. It is an enjoyable read with stories about making shifts in how you see things that can make a real difference.

Getting Things Done by David Allen

This book is a classic. It offers great practical advice on a system of getting things done. I use several of the ideas and principals in his book and have made adjustments and changes to fit my style and personality.

4 Day Win by Martha Beck

This book is suppose to be about weight loss but so many of the ideas and principals Martha offers work for many life challenges. As most of us know, weight issues are not just about the food. There are almost always emotional issues that are the cause behind it. She has a great wit and an engaging writing style. There are exercises to do, 4 days at a time. It shares the concept of Kaizen, although she doesn’t call it that.

A New Earth – Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle

This is a book that has some profound life lessons. It is very spiritual in nature and has some very enlightening lessons. It can be difficult at times to read. If it is still available, it is very helpful to listen to the webcast that Oprah had in discussing the book with Eckhart Tolle. They spent about 90 minutes per chapter, for 10 weeks, discussing the book and answering questions from readers. Check out http://www.Oprah.com for that.

Making A Living Without A Job by Barbara Winter

This is another classic. Barbara has written a book about how to start your own business and how to be an entrepreneur. She is a great storyteller and is positive and inspiring.
Barbara offers wonderful seminars, teleclasses, and a terrific print newsletter, Winning Ways, along with a free online ezine. Check out her website for more information:

Write it Down, Make It Happen by Henriette Anne Klauser

This book explains the importance of writing down your goals and how that can help you understand what you want and attract it to you. She has a great writing style and the stories are engaging about how all kinds of people have written down their dreams and then realized them.

The Nine Modern Day Muses (and a bodyguard) by Jill Badonsky

Jill Badonsky, the founder of Kaizen Muse Creativity Coaching (which I am certified and trained in), has a playful and original style as she enlightens you about the creative process using Muses that help you to follow your own creative passion. It is a good reference book and one you can refer to when your creativity needs a boost.

What We Ache For by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

This book is beautifully written about the challenges and inspiration of exploring your creativity. It’s about the desire to express ourselves authentically with meaning and matter.

The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp

Twyla Tharp is a well known choreographer who has created more than 130 dances and won Emmy’s and a Tony award for her work. She writes through the context of a choreographer but her message applies to anyone in any field where creativity is an important part of your work.

This is a practical guide about the necessity of making creativity a habit. She makes a solid case for making time and space for your creative expression on a regular basis, not waiting for inspiration to strike. But rather, by making a habit of your creativity will bring inspiration, improve your skills, and ultimately lead to your success.
